The news was spread today that Genady Nikolaevich Podvodov, a native of the Donetsk, Ukraine area, was called as mission president for the St. Petersburg mission in Russia.This is the first Ukrainian couple to receive the calling of mission president.
President Podvodov is the man in the photo with the tag on.

Genndy Nikolaevich Podvodov, 42, Russia St. Petersburg Mission; Petrovsky Branch, Donetsk Ukraine district; former district president and counselor, counselor in a branch presidency, seminary teacher and branch Sunday school president. Unit manager in a private enterprise. Born in Polyanovka, Melitopol district, Zaporozhe region, Ukraine, USSR, to Nikolay Ivanovich Podvodov and Pelageya Stepanovna Podvodov. Married Tatyana Anatolyevna Bakovskaya, two children. Sister Podvodov is a former district Primary president, district family history center dorector and family history missionary. Born in Vladimirovka, Volnovakha district, Donetsk region, Ukraine, USSR, to Anatoly Petrovich Bakovsky and Nina Petrovna Bakovskaya.

ril General Conference, Elder Sergei N. Mikulin (the man to my right in the photo at the left) was sustained as an Area Authority Seventy—the second Ukrainian to receive such a calling.
Elder Mikulin is a native of Kharkov, Ukraine. I served in Kharkov from May to September of 2005, and had the blessing of meeting with Elder Mikulin once per week when he was the Kharkov district president.
This is exciting news of the growth of the Church in Ukraine. It is a country of approximately 48 million people. About 10,000+ of those millions are Latter-day Saints.
In even more exciting news, a temple is scheduled to be completed in Ukraine in September of 2009. It was
announced in 1998 by President Hinckley, but it has been a slow go. The picture is what it should look like when completed.
The Saints in Ukraine currently travel 30 or so hours by bus to attend the Frieberg, Germany temple.
