Making Baptist Friends in Monterey

I traveled to Monterey, California, for four days last week to cover an interfaith food drive for MormonNewsroom.org. Monterey is beautiful, as are its people — especially the Baptist friends we made. I'm not sure I've met a group with more passion for the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We attended Sunday services at the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Seaside, California, to capture video of Rev. H. H. Lusk Sr.'s congregation. Rev. Lusk, who has preached at Bethel for 52 years, leads the interfaith outreach that has fed hungry families each Easter and Thanksgiving since 2008. Toward the end of the Sunday service, Rev. Lusk asked our cameraman, Dave, to say a few words. So, the photo below is of Dave, a Mormon, preaching to Baptists.

On Monday, members of various congregations gathered at Rev. Lusk's church to assemble bags of food. Each bag has enough food to feed a family of five.

We also had time to visit Fisherman's Warf in downtown Monterey to get some b-roll of the coast.
