The Parental Relationship

One of our girls had an hours-long tantrum this evening over a toy we took away because of an earlier tantrum. The above photo belies their surprising ability to weep, wail and throw their shoes at us.

I'm grateful I read this passage just a few minutes prior to all hell breaking loose:

"The parental relationship is supposed to be built upon unconditional love—a gift that cannot be bought and cannot be earned. It sits outside the logic of meritocracy and is the closest humans come to grace." —David Brooks, The Road to Character

That's amazing that you could read that at such a critical moment. Good for you in teaching with consequences! You have some extra strong spirits there in your home keep up the good work!
