On Day 1 I looked in wonder
Into her deep, quiet, strong eyes,
Like a vast snow-covered field at night—
Fresh from heaven—
Ready to embark on the journey of life.
On Day 2,211 I look on in mercy
At her timid yet strong eyes,
Comforted by heavenly embrace,
Ready to embark on the jittery journey of grade school.
