And then we're going to the Zoo!

Just a reminder for those of you who forgot and would be interested; I added a tab, located just under the heading, labeled "Words, by Lucy". It is a collection of phrases and conversations featuring Lucy which made us laugh. I update it more often than post. Enjoy!

We finally made it to the zoo last week. We were able to get together with some of my family: Kimi, Rachel, Jeff, TJ, the Whitchurch grandparents and the Paulevesians (who are staying in Utah after all)! They'll eventually be moving to the Midvale area where Paul's new job is but it's a LOT closer than Texas, so we'll take it.

It was a perfect day and we went early to beat the crowds. Future reference to everyone - go at 9 when they open. You get a prefect temperature, NO crowds, and all the animals are out.

When we got to the giraffes it looked like some lucky people had been there at just the right time to help feed the giraffes. If only we'd known the walkway connecting from the Asian Highlands was under construction we would have been there at the right time. Darn construction.

After Jeff's parents got us all on the carousel we were just in time for the bird show, which was awesome as usual and included a rather reluctant hawk. He flew down from the big pole but landed in a tree rather than on his perch in the theater. It took the bird trainer several minutes to coax him down. They couldn't continue with the show until he was put away. As the trainer put it, "He's a carnivore and some of our other birds aren't, if you get my meaning."

 We were also just in time for the seal show at the new Rocky Shores exhibit, though none of us got any pictures of that. It was a very successful visit despite Lucy's minor tantrums and the rather lame train ride. But Hogle Zoo did say they are redoing the train track starting this month until 2014.

We can't wait until we can go again next year!
